How to Start CSS Preparation from Zero

Start with the syllabus, not the bookshop

Most aspirants begin by buying a stack of recommended books. That is backwards. Your first week should be spent with two documents: the official FPSC syllabus and the last five years of past papers.

Week 1–2: Understand the exam

• Read the syllabus of every compulsory subject once.
• Skim past papers and note recurring themes.
• Watch our free orientation course to understand the selection process end to end.

Week 3–4: Build your routine before your knowledge

A sustainable daily routine beats heroic weekend sessions:

1. One newspaper (Dawn is enough) — 45 minutes, editorials and opinion.
2. One compulsory subject — 2 hours.
3. English writing practice — 30 minutes, every single day.

Consistency over intensity. The exam is won by the aspirant who shows up for 300 days, not the one who studies 14 hours in June.

Choosing optionals can wait

Do not finalise optional subjects in month one. Spend time with the compulsory papers first; your optional choice will be better informed after you understand how FPSC frames questions.
