Every year aspirants flock to the same optional subjects because seniors recommend them. But the right question is not "what do toppers take?" — it is "where can I score, given my background?"

• Science subjects can score very high but punish superficial preparation severely.

1. List subjects where you have an academic background or genuine interest.
2. Cross-check each against the last five years of papers — can you understand what is being asked?
